Canal+ brings the award-winning Apple TV+ to millions of its customers in France
Apple and Canal+ today announced the award-winning Apple TV+ will be available to every Canal+ subscriber at no extra cost from 20 April as part of their current Canal+ plan. Canal+ customers can seamlessly and easily access the films and series of Apple TV+ directly on their existing set-top box — no separate app or subscription necessary.
Apple TV+ offers premium compelling drama and comedy series, feature films, groundbreaking documentaries, and kids and family entertainment. After its launch on 1 November, 2019, Apple TV+ became the first all-original streaming service to launch around the world and has premiered more original hits and received more award recognitions faster than any other streaming service in its debut. To date, Apple Original films, documentaries, and series have earned 348 wins and 1,440 award nominations and counting, including multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy Ted Lasso, which just kicked off its third season, and historic Oscar Best Picture winner CODA.
“I’ve long admired Canal+ and their commitment to high-quality programming, so we couldn’t be more excited to work with them to bring the award-winning films and series of Apple TV+ into even more homes across France,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services. “This is an incredible offering for Canal+ customers. And through shows like Liaison and Drops of God, we remain committed to the country’s creative industries and shining a spotlight on many of its best writers, directors, actors, and artists.”
“Apple is one of the greatest brands in the world and we are proud to associate the CANAL+ brand with it today,” said Maxime Saada, chairman and CEO of CANAL+ Group. “Throughout its history, Apple has revolutionised every product and service category it has chosen to enter. With Apple TV+, Apple has applied its high standards and excellence to content and in just a few years it became one of the world’s leading players in the industry, as evidenced by its many award-winning movies and series. This is why, for the first time in its history, the CANAL+ Group has chosen to offer access to content from a partner platform to all of its subscribers in France. With this historic partnership, we are consolidating both our business as an aggregator, through carrying Apple TV+, and our business as a publisher, with the broadcasting of select Apple Original series on our CANAL+ channel, to the delight of our subscribers.”
Apple TV+ is home to award-winning and critically acclaimed series such as Ted Lasso, Severance, Shrinking, Pachinko, The Morning Show, Foundation, Black Bird, Bad Sisters, For All Mankind, Slow Horses, Tehran, Trying, Servant, Schmigadoon!, The Last Day of Ptolemy Grey, and many more, as well as Apple Original Films like Academy Award winners CODA and The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, and the recently premiered Tetris. New and highly anticipated titles coming soon to Apple TV+ include The Last Thing He Told Me, starring and executive produced by Jennifer Garner; the star-studded Silo based on Hugh Howey’s bestselling trilogy; comedy series Platonic, starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne; City on Fire, from creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage; High Desert, starring and executive produced by Patricia Arquette; The Crowded Room starring Tom Holland; Hijack, a new thriller starring Idris Elba; and more.
Highly anticipated Apple Original Films set to make their global debut on Apple TV+ soon include romantic action-adventure feature Ghosted, starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas; STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie; feature documentary and Sundance selection Stephen Curry: Underrated; Killers of the Flower Moon, the upcoming film starring Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, as well as newcomer Lily Gladstone, from Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese; the star-studded spy thriller Argylle, with Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, and Samuel L. Jackson; historical action epic Napoleon from acclaimed director Ridley Scott and starring Joaquin Phoenix; and more.
Launched in February, Liaison marked the first Franco-British Apple Original, in French and English language, starring Vincent Cassel and Eva Green and written by Virginie Brac. Liaison is a high-stakes, contemporary thriller exploring how the mistakes of our past have the potential to destroy our future, combining action with an unpredictable, multilayered plot where espionage and political intrigue play out against a story of passionate and enduring love. The first episode of Liaison debuted globally on 24 February.
Drops of God (Les Gouttes de Dieu) is the second Apple TV+ French project, inspired by the bestselling manga from award-winning Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto. The eight-episode series of this multilingual French-Japanese drama stars Fleur Geffrier and Tomohisa Yamashita, and takes viewers into the world of gastronomy and fine wines in Tokyo. Drops of God (Les Gouttes de Dieu) premieres 21 April.
